Home All Clinical Update – Trial of New Medication Packaging System at Horton House Hunters Hill
The trial was introduced due to the increasing acuity and frailty of our residents, more complex medication regimes and associated changes with medication orders, and to reduce medication administration errors. It’s also hoped it will reduce wastage of medicines and potentially lead to lower costs for the resident, as the UD7 pack does not have to be replaced mid-cycle when there is a change in the medication order.
In addition, the UD7 system option enables the registered nurse to delegate, under supervision, the administration of medications to a trained carer. To roll out the program, staff communication and education was undertaken with the support of Webstercare. The program is currently being assessed and we await staff feedback. Final results will be made available shortly.
