The Aged and Community Services National Open Day for aged care facilities across Australia (and indeed many other countries) inspired us to open the $3M renovation of Glades Bay Gardens to the public and to invite Tim Webster to broadcast his Saturday 2UE program from the facility. There was never an expectation that the whole project would be finished (we estimate final completion October 2014) but builders, Twilight Aged Care staff and numerous contractors worked tirelessly to ensure the front courtyard and key indoor areas were completed and looking their best. We could not have been blessed with more perfect weather or a more beautiful day. Residents proudly enjoyed showing off their Home and scores of visitors, came to enjoy the day with their family member or have a tour of the new state of the art facility and inquire about accommodation for themselves. We proudly welcomed Roy Maggio, Mayor of Ryde and Mr John Laurie, Chairman of Twilight Aged Care with his wife, Mrs Mary Laurie. The CEO, Management Team from Head Office and Managers from other facilities, together with many of the Glades Bay team, AND many of our wonderful volunteers, all gave up their Saturday to work hard, give tours to the public, share information and knowledge about the aged care system and ensure everyone had a wonderful time. We had the education group from Simavita with us for the day, together with the Memory Van from Alzheimer’s Australia … all alongside our day for the young at heart with a photo booth, face painting, tai chi, piano recitals, ukelele playing, balloons, coffee cart and exceptional food from the Glades Bay Gardens kitchen led by Ramina. Thank you to everyone who made this day so happy, successful and rewarding and thank you to everyone who came along. We’ll be adding to the photo gallery and you can see more on our facebook page.
