Resident Profile: Joyce Attenborough

Joyce has been a wonderful addition to Jamieson House; her intelligence reflected in her adept knowledge of words and numbers that were developed over an illustrious life.

Joyce was born in Newtown, Sydney in 1925 and was educated at Canterbury Primary and Secondary School. A future in the world of the intelligentsia was not abated by her decision not to go to university, For many years, Joyce worked at the  Commonwealth Bank in the Chief Accountant’s Department at Head Office, situated in Martin Place. Such skill is still evident today in her ability to recite all the different branches off by heart, upon inquiry.

Through an infatuation with books, particularly authors such as Wilbur Smith, Joyce has proven that her knowledge is not just exclusive to accounting. Anyone who has challenged her to a game of scrabble would know that her kind persona and pretty face is quickly forgotten when constantly losing to her in this game of logic.

These days, Joyce enjoys walking  around the garden as well as reading, crosswords, and of course scrabble. A grandmother of seven girls, this brilliant woman has a lot to talk about if anyone wants to have a chat. I can assure you that she will not disappoint.

Joyce has also recently become a GREAT GRANDMOTHER to two lovely boys.  Congratulations from all at Jamieson House and Twilight Aged Care.
